Michael Schumacher gets speeding ticket in Germany

See that dude in the pink t-shirt standing by the police car? That’s Michael Schumacher. The former F1 pilot was caught speeding near Karpen, Germany recently and it seems that he had lost its touch. After some time ago we told you about him crashing a Ferrari prototype and with rumors going around about him being involved in a Fiat incident, now he was caught doing 140 km/h (87 mph) in a 100 (62 mph) zone in an Audi A4 Cabrio. Considering his speed, his license should’ve been suspended, but yeah, he’s Michael Schumacher and he only got a 3 points penalty and a €75 fine. Michael, who ironically is a member of the Commission for Global Road Safety, said: “I’m very sorry, this is something not in my character. Driving fast should only be done on a track.”

Women aroused by Maserati, Ferrari and Lambo engine sound. Oh, really?

A recent study made by a British insurance company revealed that women are aroused by the sound of some cars’ engines. But don’t imagine that if you accelerate your Volkswagen Polo you’ll get ladies all crazy about you. Because, actually, the Polo engine sound has the exact opposite effect. No, we’re talking about the engine sound from cars like Maserati, Ferrari and Lamborghini. Yup, we know, it’s shocking, but it’s the truth. Women love expensive, powerful cars. Who would’ve thought?

The study consisted of a 20-minute tape with cars being revved that was played to a group of male and female volunteers. After that the saliva of the volunteers was collected and tested for testosterone levels. The most significant increase in testosterone level for women were reported after listening to Maserati and for men after the Lamborghini part. Unfortunately, bad news for VW Polo owners. The sound of Polo’s engine, not only it didn’t increase testosterone levels, but this actually dropped.

Audi to bring back the A2 as electric powered car

Introduced in 1999, the Audi A2 was never a success for the German company so the model was discontinued in 2005. When the A2 production ended, Audi announced that its replacement, the Audi A1, will be unveiled in 2009. However, according to Car Magazine, the A2 will be reintroduced and will benefit from an electric package. If this rumors are true, the A2 will be built as a lightweight aluminum spaceframe (ASF) city car adapted for battery operation. And that’s not all. Though the development will be very expensive and the platform won’t be shared throughout the VW Group, its basic underlying concept might be flexible enought to be the starting point of a Porsche electric powered part.

Almost 1,100 Subaru’s honored Colin McRae

It’s been almost a year since the auto world was stunned when legendary rally driver Colin McRae died in a helicopter accident, with three more persons including his 4 year old son. To honor him, approximately 1100 Subaru cars gathered in front of Colin’s residence in Scotland on Saturday August 30. The convoy, that stretched 30 miles drove for nine hours (300 miles) to Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury, with thousands of fans cheering along the way. “Literally every bridge had people waving and cheering us along with many hanging the Saltire from the railings.” said Grant Hendry, who led the McRae Gathering convoy. “It turned what was an already memorable event into a truly amazing and emotional occasion.”

After that, on Sunday morning, the 1086 Subaru’s, led by Colin McRae’s original 1996 Impreza rally car syncronized and formed a sign almost half a mile long that spelled out COLIN MCRAE along with the Scottish flag. The event, besides raising nearly £40,000 for the McRae charities, broke two Guiness World Records, one for the largest sign made out of cars and the second for the largest parade of cars.

Reckless driver dies in Lamborghini Murcielago crash

What you see in the video below is what’s left of a beautiful green Lamborghini Murcielago. The crash took place Woodland Hills, Los Angeles’ district. The 30 year old driver, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, was seen speeding west on the Ventura Freeway west of Topanga Canyon Boulevard just before the incident when he lost control of the car, hit a guardrail on the 101 freeway and crashed into a parking structure. The car burst into flames and the driver suffered severe burns and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is not yet known, but it really doesn’t matter, a man lost his life. This should be another warning for everyone that drives a high performance car, no matter what brand or how much it costs. Always think twice before hitting the gas pedal!

Toyota to present the Avensis Sedan at Paris

Besides the IQ minicar and the Urban Cruiser crossover, Toyota is also planning on showing the Avensis Sedan for the first time, next month at the Paris Motor Show. We don’t know for sure whether the next generation Avensis will also get five-door hatchback and estate wagon models, but Toyota will definitely let us know after the French debut, including full specs and pricing. All we know is that the car will be built at the Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, UK. Stay tuned because we’ll be there at Paris and we’ll let you once we get more details.

The Transformers 2 Volt is not the real thing?

On Friday we showed you the first photo and video of what everyone thought to be the production ready Chevrolet Volt. However, questioned by Inside Line, GM spokesman Rob Peterson said: “It’s obviously different from the original (2007 Chevrolet Volt concept), but this is not the final version at this stage. I’ve never seen that vehicle and I’ve never seen that color. You can tell it caught me off guard. I didn’t even realize it (the Volt) was out of the state of Michigan.”

The prototype we saw in the video matches the teaser photos released some time ago, so we can assume that Peterson was really caught off guard and didn’t know exactly what to say. On the other hand, Inside Line suggests that the Volt (which was on the set for a day or two and it’s not going to be a Transformer) is actually a Chevy Cobalt or Malibu in a Volt body shell and the real thing won’t be like this. So, if you thought that the Volt starts shaping up, actually things got even more complicated. Is that the real Volt, is that only a concept car, is Peterson BSitting us? What do you think? BMW 3 Series bodykit by Wald International

German cars are definite favourites for tuning and improving the performance, especially by european tuner groups, but that hasn’t stopped the japanese guys from Wald International to take a swing at BMW’s 3 Series, by fitting it with a superb bodykit.

This kit made for the E90 3 Series is consisted of new reworked front and back bumpers, four new fog lamps grace the front one, side-skirts come to complete the agressive look on the sides of the car, and in the back, a trunk-lid spoiler finishes of the kit. Add to all of this, the 19-inch allow rims, wrapped with custom low-profile tires, and the custom exhaust system which gives a trully fantastic sound. Unfortunately the guys from Wald didn’t touch the performance settings, so you’ll have to be satisfied with only the fast look, because you won’t even stand a chance to a M3. Nissan GT-R tuning package by Wald International

Looks like things are really busy for the Japanese tuner Wald International. After today we’ve presented you their BMW 3 Series package, now we have another product from them, a tuning program for the new Nissan GT-R. This is actually a preview, because the package is not on the market yet, but it will include a full bodykit with carbon fiber front lip spoiler, custom nose cover, carbon-fiber engine cover, new rear wing and 22 inch multi-spoke wheels. We also know that a custom exhaust system will be among the mechanical mods, but that’s about it, more details will be released once the package is out. Check out one more photo after the jump.

BMW – Big Money’s Worth?

The BMW M5 from BMW is a high end performance version of the BMW 5-Series. It was unveiled first at the 1984 Amsterdam Motor Show. The M5 has been manufactured from various 5-series versions like the E28, E34, E39 and most recently the E60.

The first BMW M5 was the based on the E28 5-series. It was a saloon that had the performance of a sports car. The M5 used the 535i chassis and an evolution of the engine from the M1. It was the world’s fastest production saloon.

The M5 was made available in four versions. Three versions of the M5 used the M88/3 powerplant that was capable of churning out 286 HP except one version, which used the S38 6-Cylinder engine that was fitted with a catalytic converter and was capable of delivering a toned down 256 HP.

Transmission was through a 5-speed manual gear box. The 286 HP engine had a top end of 153 mph whereas the 256 HP version could achieve a top end of 148 mph.
